Dark Energy Doesn’t Exist? Astrophysicists Propose Stunning New Theory

We live in an outrageously big Universe that is getting even bigger day by day at staggering speeds and even at an accelerated pace. This odd phenomenon was discovered about a century ago by the American astronomer Edwin Hubble. However, the Bible was speaking about the expansion of the Universe hundreds of years before scientists discovered it and proved it.

But exactly why does the Universe expand and even in an accelerated way? While we know that the expansion is the logical aftermath of the Big Bang, the big mystery is the acceleration itself. Scientists came with an explanation in the ’90s, and they dubbed it simply ‘Dark Energy’.

What is Dark Energy?

No-one knows exactly how to define it, nor how it works. What is known by scientists is that Dark Energy is the mysterious ‘thing’ that makes the Universe expand at an accelerated pace. They also know that around 70 percent of the Universe’s mass is composed of this odd type of energy.

But the problem is that the accelerated expansion of the Universe seems to violate the law of gravity, which states that objects are practically attracted to each other. Therefore, the expansion should slow down, not accelerate.

The new theory

The IKBFU Physics and Mathematics Institute Artyom Astashenok and the Institute’s MA student Alexander Teplyakov are having a new article published by the International Journal of Modern Physics. The new work claims the shocking hypothesis that what we call ‘Dark Energy’ doesn’t actually exist. What causes the expansion of the Universe is the additional repulsion, which is only a manifestation of the borders of the Cosmos.

This doesn’t mean, surprisingly, that the Universe ends somewhere. The researchers are making an analogy with the Earth in order to explain this. Our planet is finite, but it has no boundaries.

An official statement made by the scientists involved says the following:

The so-called Casimir effect (named after the Dutch physicist Hendrik Casimir), which consists in the fact that two metal plates placed in a vacuum are attracted to each other, has long been known. It would seem that this cannot be, because there is nothing in the vacuum. But in fact, according to quantum theory, particles constantly appear and disappear there, and as a result of their interaction with plates, which indicate certain boundaries of space (which is extremely important), a very small attraction occurs. And there is an idea according to this, approximately the same thing happens in space. Only this leads, on the contrary, to additional repulsion, which accelerates the expansion of the Universe. That is, there is essentially no “Dark Energy,” but there is a manifestation of the boundaries of the Universe.

The study seems to prove that there is no contradiction between the accelerated expansion of the Universe and the law of universal gravitation. The published article develops the ideas presented in a thesis wrote by Alexander Teplyakov.
